    March 12th Auction Pickups

Post by jholl72 on Sat Mar 12, 2011 8:26 pm

    Hey guys,
Hit the auctions again today and had some good luck.
I have attached some pics of what I picked up. I got everything I was after except a 1943 dated BD with 4th Armoured Div patches...went for $100. I had my bidding card up and the auctioneer called out "sold", then looked at me...I was a little pissed but he said he couldn't do anything...idiot!
Anyway, four of the Tams are war dated, two aren't dated...I think one is post war the other I don't know. Both tankers helmets are in unissued condition with liners and C broad arrow marked. The jacket I think is a jeep coat, but I can't find reference for that exact model. The SD is named to a 2nd Lt. in the Victoria Rifles of Canada regiment. The other device is a chart plotter, used in WWII by bomber navigators and other large planes. Apparently the serial number indicates it was made in 1941.
The next auction is the big one with 100 plus uniforms, 50 plus helmets and 50 plus caps.

    Hey Dale,
This is the same auction that I hit the last time. They have one every three months. There were another dozen MKIIs that sold for $25 again and about 8 MKIVs that they couldn't give away...the auctioneer wouldn't take less than $12 per helmet and they went unsold. There were also another 20 or so uniforms, all post war except for what you see here and the BD that I mentioned. I won't tell you what I paid for this stuff, I don't want to see a grown man cry.LOL! Come on down for the next auction, we could really clean up with two wallets working the room.

Thanks Anthony, it took me quite awhile to find this little gem of an auction house, it requires a few hours of driving and an entire day devoted to it, but I think it is worth it.

    Hi Mike,
The one brownish coloured one with the lighter tan liner is British. Unfortunately that was one I was going to keep as I don't have an example of a British Tam. Having said that for the right price or trade I have been known to let things go.LOL! Send me a PM if you want.

    Hi Mike,
I am into uniforms, headgear and fieldgear mostly. Don't really collect one thing, whatever I find interesting. I have most of the common stuff.
I have been looking for a wool WWII Canadian wedge cap. I gave mine away to a friend whose grandfather had one from the war, it went missing and when he passed I gave it to her. I haven't been able to replace it as of yet.

As you can see there are a couple of wear holes in the top right side of this cap, other than that it appears to be in great shape.there is another wedge that is also very nice, but cotton with no badge which you can have as well.

The second wedge which is again cotton is Buffalo cap Winnipeg maker and has stenciled ser# H616536 in the head band which I think is a MD 10 block number.

The jacket may be an air force item as the term "type C" is common terminology with RAF / RCAF items, plus it looks like a "bomber" type flight jacket. Who knows, that may be a place to start searching.

    items to trade if interested...

Post by Michael Reintjes on Thu Mar 17, 2011 8:45 am

...another item I dug out of the basement. I would trade all these items if you are interested. I found this GSW 1942 helmet with liner and netting(no chinstrap). I would trade both wedge caps and the helmet if the Tam is WW2 and British. So if you change your mind let me know your thoughts and I,ll sned this stuff to you.My wife will love you for me getting this stuff out.. cheers Mike.

    Hi Mike,
I would go for that trade. I am trying to confirm the date of the Tam. It is British, it has the WD broadarrow stamp inside. I can't quite make out the letter though. It looks like N, which would be 1945, if I remember correctly. Do you want some more pics of it?

    Hi Mike,
Just wondering if you are still interested in the British Tam. I have had a few collectors tell me it is a late WWII Tam.
