Canadian Medical Helmets Empty Canadian Medical Helmets

    Post by GCR817 Thu Nov 26, 2009 7:40 pm

I thought I would start a thread on Canadian Medic Helmets (and Medical pers). I will start a new thread for each of my examples.

If anyone has examples to add, please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Geoff

PS My first attempt at posting images so please stand by.

Having problems posting pics? The best way right now to do it, is upload them to photo hosting site the copy the forum code to your post.
Or you can use the forum host, click on the icon..just below the B in the controls above your post. Click on browse, select photo you want, then click host it.

Copy the code for Image, then click on the icon below the B again to make the window disappear. Then paste the link into the thread. Kind of complex, we are looking into something different if it is possible.

My only medics helmet was a post war repaint. I bought cheap for a parts helmet. When I got it home I noticed some red and white paint peaking through the ugly green. I started to stip it and this is what was revealed. I haven't finished the paint removal yet.

That is different from the ones that I have seen! Is it a Canadian made mk II (looks like it).

    Thanks,

Yep, it's a Canadian made MKII. I stopped stripping the paint as I was getting too much white and red paint with it. It was also blurring the edges of the red cross as you can see in the picture. I haven't the intestinal fortitude to continue in the chance that I ruin it.

    Jeff,

This one would fit in nicely with my assortment. Any chance you would sell or trade it?

    Cheers,

Great looking lid Jeff! I'm getting jealous of you guys...only medic helmet I have is post-war and probably faked.

    Hi Geoff,
It's possible that I may be talked out of it. Although it is my only medic helmet and it goes nicely with my RCAMC battle dress. I may be interested in a trade, send me a PM and we can talk.

Jeff you been holding out on me again?? I don't recall seeing this one before. I feel bad, I have nothing to contribute to most topics other than .... damn something else I don't have. :)

Looks pretty darn good to me.

Most known Canadian Medic helmet photographs date from 1945. Does anyone have photographs of Medic helmets from the early stages of the war 1942-1943 (i.e. Sicily)? If not, did the Canadian Army have regulations about painted Medic helmets?

Canadian Medical Helmets Empty Canadian Medics in Ortona

    Post by GCR817 Sun Jun 26, 2011 10:59 am

Here is a photo of Canadian medics working in Ortona. Notice the fellow in the upper left corner as his helmet has a rectangular painted medics panel on it. I have yet to find one of these styles of Mk II.

Only one I have is a MkII post-war repaint. I'm assuming it was used by civil defense or emergency services in Calgary since it was retrieved from storage in the General Hospital before it was tore down 20 some years ago. Still a nice looking helmet though.

It almost does look black...I think it is the remnants of a waterslide decal.

Nice lid by the way 2 thumbs up
