Military Districts...... Empty Reguarding service numbers

Post by Ground Hugger Sun Oct 07, 2012 7:46 am

My father enlisted in the Perth Regiment December 7 1942 SOS date April 1946. What he did and where he was during this time other then what he told us is unknown as the Perth Regiment has no records of any type showing his whereabouts. We have applied for his service records back at the end of May but still have heard nothing from LAC other than it could take several months to get a response. My question is his service number consists of an A for district 1 but he had a six digit service number staring with A60. This does not seem to fit the perimeter of the 5 digit Perth Regiment which is 11000 - 16999. So where do the 6 digit service numbers fit in?

Seems he would be a replacement to the Perths. Simply meaning, when he joined the CASF, he joined some unit other than the Perth Regiment. His service records will reveal much detail, I know the wait is LONG, I have been waiting over 6 months for a file to Bell. Normally the wait is not this long but they have reduced staff.

No he actually joined the Perth as this has been confirmed with the Perth Regiments historians. Problem is their records only show when he joined and when he was discharged. They have no other details on him as they do other members of the regiment. All we know is he went to Aldershot England and from there to NW Europe. He trained as a paratrooper. We know he was in Arnhem, landed in glider there. But not with who. He said that they wore a maroon beret and where known to the Germans as the maroon devils. That's all we know. I did read on this forum at one time that a fellow out west who's father-in-law was also with the Perth and he too had a maroon beret. So this has us all confused as he does not appear on any rolls. I know that he complained that he did not receive all his decorations that he was entitled to. He did not receive these until the late 60's. Odd thing is his discharge papers had been changed by a senior office to show that he did serve in N.W. Europe. So it seems even the DND did not know where he was.

Could you please provide us with a little more information about your father? Right now Arnhem is the only key to his past.

    --Full name.
    --Rank.
    --Date of Birth.
    --Photograph of him in uniform.

*Note: The SOE Jedburgh team sent to Arnhem didn't contain any Canadians and the only other possibility I can think of is his being a CANLOAN.
