Canadian Scottish MkIII on Ebay Empty Painted Helmets

Post by edstorey Tue Feb 12, 2013 3:31 am

Much like the painted M1 helmet craze which seems to never end and has resulted in an endless stream of nearly indistinguishable fakes, I would not be spending my money on any painted Commonwealth helmet without doing some serious research and soul-searching.

This one has been for sale on ebay earlier, 1 to 2 years ago. I'm pretty sure it's a fake due to the absence of quality in the badge and it is VERY inconsistent with known originals. I wouldn't touch this one with a 6 feet pole.

Anyone has thoughts on the one that was sold yesterday?

Have a look while the link is still up:

Canadian Scottish MkIII on Ebay Empty Mk III Helmet

Post by edstorey Sun Sep 20, 2020 6:23 am

$2,388.00US is a lot of money to pay for a Canadian Scottish decal stuck to a Mk III Helmet with no provenance.

I am very uncomfortable with that helmet. Someone put a lot of $$$ out for something without any provenance.

In my opinion the decal is not contemporary to the helmet.

Yes I agree, it looks way too big for a helmet decal

I believe the decal to be original. It is similar to known original examples that I have seen. Ypres makes a valid point, when was the decal added to the helmet? The age and wear on the helmet is not seen in the decal.

I agree with all of your comments.  I think lately we are seeing more decaled MKIIs and MKIIIs popping up widespread, some faked and others with the original decals applied, thereby getting a hefty price. Plenty of research is definitely required.  I say that, however, there are a few gems that pop up now and then on some of these sites.
