South Africa War Veterans Association

Hello all,

Quite some time ago on a holiday to the US and Canada, I was at a collectors shop in Toronto, browsing through his stock and I came across a small enamel badge, it was to the South African War Veterans Association Province of Quebec. This was quite a find as I collect mainly to the Boer war. I immediately purchased this and later added it to my collection of Boer war veterans Associations.

I have often wondered if any other provence had their own association and if they had their own badge and have never been able to find out.

Has any member come across any other badges/pin of this type, I be interested to know.

At present I do not have a photo of the badge but will try and upload one as soon as I can.

Good Morning Breaker.....

Only the Province of Quebec had its own association as far as I have been able to find out..... There were other groups across Canada but became united under The South African Verterans Association that was world wide withe the round pin......

Hello Mike C,

Many thanks for your welcome to your forum, and the very useful information regarding the veterans association, I had thought that each province had a branch, but that is very interesting. Thanks also for the information, you never know when it can be used.

I tend to just collect enamel lapel/pin badges now as these are very difficult to fake/forge. I'm sure that I'm not the only person to get stung buying fake items.

Anyway, I shall enjoy posting of you forum, once again many thanks.

Hello Mike,

That’s a very interesting medal. I was intrigued to notice that on the obverse it has a late Queen Victoria’s head and on the reverse it states His Majesty’s Army, Navy and Colonial Forces Veterans Association. Incorporated Canada 1901. Perhaps,it was minted just after the Queens death in 1901, have you any information about the medal and the association. Do you know if these veterans were in South Africa and have any further information about them?.

I have never seen that particular badge before. I wonder if the badge changed over time? Or maybe by area? Alternatively, perhaps whoever printed that item didn't know what the original badge looked like? I have seen a few of the badges in the style on the first card, and I would expect all branches would have used the same design nationwide.

I particularly like the verse on the inside of the card, very moving.
