Korean war service records Empty Korean war service records

    Post by 2ndAIF Sun Feb 03, 2013 10:50 am

Hi I recently picked up a really nice nice grouping of a uniform and paperwork to a soldier in the Royal Canadian Regiment who served in Korea. But being new to Canadian collecting and living in Australia I have no idea where to start, I have a little information from his paper work but would like to find out more if I can, any help would be appreciated.

    Here is what i know...

His name was Richard frank Jillett from Montreal Québec service number D-800648. He was a scout sniper in the 2nd RCR and served from 14 August 1950 - 14th August 1952 he was wounded in action in Korea 6th November 1951.

He also served in WW2 in the Australian army 1942-46

If anybody could help me out or point me in the right direction that would be great! Very Happy

    Cheers Luke.

Do you have a date of death? If not you'll need one, check online obits. If he passed 20 or more years ago you can request his service file from The Library and Archives Canada, you need to fill out a form available online and you'll need to have proof of death to go with it.
If he's passed leSs than 20 year ago you are out of luck unless your NOK.

Your only other option is to contact the RCR museum and see if they will help you out with information. Its in London Ontario, you can find contact details online.
They may not be helpful either because of the privacy act but its worth a try.
