Help Identify A Helmet Empty Help Identify A Helmet

Post by doctorpepper Mon Aug 04, 2014 4:44 pm

    Hello,

I was referred to this website to get information on the Brodie helmet I just picked up.

The following is copied from my post on World War 2 Buffs on Facebook:  303

Hello, I am looking for information about a Brodie Helmet that I was Given,
Inside it says G.S.W (General Steel Wears) D.P & H (Canadian Department of Pensions, Health and Welfare)
There is no date stamped on the inside on this helmet, Also, there are no rivets holding the helmet together. I got this from my step dads Mom and it is in rough shape.

Now, I do have one similar to this one, That one says G.S.W. A.R.P (Air Raid Protection) And this one is stamped 1942. This one not only is stamped with a date, but also has rivets on the helmet that the other one does not.

Any info would be a GREAT help! Thanks in Advance!

    Welcome to the site Jordan

Your DP&H helmet is one of about 155,000 shells manufactured out of mild steel for Civil Defence purposes.

The second one sounds like a reject military shell that was used by the Civil Defence organization during WWII. There is also the possibility that it's a military shell re-issued during the post war years to Civil Defence.

If you have any specific questions about them let us know.

    Hello Eric,

    Thank you for your response!

Is there any value to the DP&H helmet?
Also, is it a ww2 helmet?

I was going to try to restore it, the liner is bad and a lot of rust inside,

sorry to post on an old topic, is it possible to see photos? I have a ww2 helmet as well that may have been re painted and re used after ww2 for civil defense purposes... Or possibly just re painted white after the war.
