Unusual Canadian made torch Empty Unusual Canadian made torch

Post by Tankermike Fri Mar 20, 2015 4:26 pm

Here is an unusual piece, a Canadian signal torch with a Morse code switch.

The only way to operate the torch was to hold the Morse code switch down.

The end cap has the following stamped "CCB" "Made in Canada" "AP16001" and a "C arrow".

I was told these were used for beach landing operations (D-Day?), the closest I could find to matching this was a description "Admiralty signal torch"

Apparently different beach landing zones had different light codes, this one has a blue glass filter.

Unfortunately the bulb and spring to hold the batteries are lost.

These were used by the ARP in Canada .... (maybe the AP is Admiralty Pattern or Air Precautions ?). This type of light did see some service at Dieppe. There is a photo of a German carrying a captured one. I think this link may have an image of a similar light ... Its in this guys belt. This is not the image I remember so there may be another photo....

I had to look really hard to see it. I thought I was looking for a pen-light sized item. WOW i was wrong.

Interesting to see all the different kit-outs these guys have.

Yes, its a big flashlight, made from brass, it looks like it takes three D size batteries, or 1940's equivalent.
