    As promised in my other post of new additions from the Ottawa show, here is what I picked up in part of April. The pic is an overview showing everything. The background is a large winter camo (solid white) pack cover. The black boots are hot weather boots, possibly US. The white thing between the boots is a CG 634 white helmet cover. ( I keep loosing these bloody things) Also another GC-634. The plan is to get the UN cover on this today. I also managed a 33 Brigade uniform Patch and a pair of early Cpl rank insignia with the Maple Leaf superimposed.

    Add to this, my other medalic acquisitions, and I am over the moon. It is a very good thing I scaled back my collecting in deed.

    If anyone reqires close up or more detailed photos of anything here, by all means, ask and will upload them.

    the Medals are all to original members on the battalions noted on the rims. I find the pair very interesting as he felt he was entitled to more than just a single BWM so he self awarded the Victory Medal. By all appearances, he wore this pair very proudly. The medals are named as follows;

    29th Canadian Infantry Battalion                                                                                                                                                                                                       75547 PTE. Yes, the boots are US origin but also issued to Canadian troops in the 1990's. I remember them in use during the early Bosnia deployments.

    Thanks for the answer Steve. I thought they had the US look to them, remembering back to what I saw many of the US troops wearing in the desert with their tan boots. ???The general construction and especially the tread and sole design just said US to me. I got them dirt cheap, and they are my size, which was the main reason for getting them. Since they fit me, I figured I could always just wear them if nothing else.

    Pat months additions as promised Empty Type I Hot Weather Boots

    Post by edstorey Sun May 01, 2016 12:29 pm

    Cliff:

    The Type I Hot Weather Boots are the ones that you have purchased and are in black leather with black canvas, the Type II Hot Weather Boots are the brown suede boots with tan canvas; both were US manufacture and both were issued to Canadians. The Type I Hot Weather Boots replaced the Jungle Boot which was of similar construction but used green canvas. I believe the Type Is were introduced in the mid-1990s and started to be issued to Canadians in the late-1990s. They are no longer being manufactured, with production ending in the early 2000s. There should be a white date-stamp on the inside tongue of the boot which will reveal the year it was manufactured.

    Like any new unissued military boot, I would resist the urge to wear it as these boots are now a challenge to find in unissued condition (especially with the instructions still attached) and are becoming popular with collectors of current equipment.

    Ed, I guess I should keep the box this time? LOL. As you have clarified these boots even more for me, they will be put away until I find a use for them (other than wearing). I may just dig them out and take some more detailed photos of them.
