The design seems to match the drawing I saw in Dress Regulations years ago. I believe the helmet liners were painted on an "as needed" basis by local MP Platoons. I don't think they were done by one manufacturer.

The "P" looks a little wonky, but that could be some MP type not being more exact in following the design.

So, I guess the question should be - Was this helmet liner painted up by an MP? Some civilian with access to Dress Regs could do a copy, so that might make it a reproduction...not a fake.

    My thoughts on it anyway.

I try to find pictures of Military Police during the years 1960s 1970s to see the markings on their helmets .

It's my understanding that these were painted at the individual/unit level and the quality can vary quite a bit. I have a photo somewhere I took in the mid 80's of two MP's directing traffic during a road move and both liners are distinctly different. Like anything else, some guys were very particular in the details when painting their liners and other guys didn't really put much effort into it.

MP helmet (m1) Empty MP Helmet

The markings on the helmet would not be hard to replicate so for me, the asking price would be a consideration. Finding a M1 shell with corresponding markings could be challenging although again, it would not be that hard to make.

Any idea if Canadian MP's painted their helmet shells in this manner? Personally, I've only seen the painted liners in use.

Found the photo... it was taken in 1988. Notice that the lettering on the helmet on the left is very similar to the OP's photo.

Here is an interesting one. There is a reflective strip applied front and center which causes the MP to look off center. The MP letters are a vinyl type material. Liner is named and has a number (SIN?) as well. Dated 1967. Just wanted to share it here before I put it up for sale.
