    Kiska Island Operation Cottage

Post by Tankermike on Tue Oct 25, 2016 10:28 am

I recently picked up the invasion plans and maps for Operation Cottage, the invasion of Kiska island. There were two landing zones, the American and Canadian. This map shows the American landing zone. There are six topographical maps and five aerial photographic maps along with the invasion plans.

Interesting find for a long forgotten battle that never was. Alvin Neil, of the 1SSF took part in this invasion. I have a write up of him on the forum.

The majority of the causalities were from friendly fire, the Canadians and Americans landed miles apart and in the fog mistook each other for the Japanese. Other casualties were from booby traps and some were lost in the fog and never found (Kiska is very mountainous and treacherous).
