    Cdn tankers black cloth beret

Post by Tankermike on Fri Sep 29, 2017 11:32 am

Here are some examples of the cloth/canvas black tankers beret. From what I can find these berets were worn as a work dress with the coveralls, I have seen these with cap badges at shows and in collections but not seen any pictures of troops wearing them with cap badges. The earliest one is 1940 made by Buffalo Cap in Winnipeg, I have seen most made by Uniform Cap MFG in Ottawa, the other manufacturer is Rogers-Rayman Industries in Toronto.

The Uniform Cap type is a thin cloth material, the Buffalo Cap material is a heavy cloth almost canvas, the Rogers-Rayman is also a heavy cloth/canvas. None of the berets have any type of backing or support for a cap badge, only the two vent holes and cloth tie straps.

    Mechanic's Cap

Nice selection of caps although it is definitely not a beret nor is it strictly armoured related as most people have been convinced.   Plain and simple, it is a Mechanic's Cap that was designed to be worn with Coveralls.

I have one from the 8threcce and was wondering if a badge was ever worn on it. I assumed not as it was a work cap which looks like a beret. Cheers Brian

    Still a Cloth Merchanics Cap

Great photo of two guys wearing mechanics caps with KD coveralls, but not matter how much you want them to be, they are not berets. Now find a primary source, and not just some photo that somebody put a caption on because they had no idea what they are talking about, and prove your hypothesis.
