...at least I believe they are. Both are the same except for the back of the one shown. It has female snaps to connect to something. Anyone seen anything like this?

Yes they are Physical Training Instructors patch...... I have seen the studs on T-Shirts as they used to change these quite often and just change the badge from one shirt to another..... I guess the wives got sick and tired of sewing new badges on that became faded after many washings.....
