    Boer War Emergency Ration Tin

Post by qsamike on Sun Jun 27, 2010 1:09 pm

    Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.....

At the request of Geoff please find some photos of Boer War Emergency Ration Tins......

The one of the left is an original and unopened, the key is broken, how often has that happened and the one on the right is a reproduction made for reinactment groups.....

    Thanks Mike,

As it turns out, I have one very similar but I thought mine was of WW1 vintage. Do you (or anyone out there), know when this ration type was introduced and what the length of service was? I wonder if some of them were left over and issued during the Great War?

    Hi Geoff.....

I don't see why not I remember getting IMP's in the mid to late 70's that were dated 1965 and 1966...... I did love the tinned Danish Bacon though.....

Many Many years ago I was offered a whole wooden case of these in mint condition 36 in the case but I did not have the funds to purchase them..... The box was branded with company name and the date 1900......

    Hi Mike,

Yes, I wouldn't doubt that they were still in service well past their propsed shelf life! Some things don't change much.

I would of love to have seen that crate of rations. The branded box would of been really interesting!

    Thanks for sharing your pics,

    Geoff
