    CEF Formation Patches

Photographs are our windows into the past and are an excellent way to study history. Even though thousands of CEF portraits were taken, it's hard to find one's which clearly show formation signs being worn. This one sold on ebay a few months ago.

A framed photo of a Lt of the 46th Battalion (South Saskatchewan). His Div patch can be clearly identified as can his collar badges.

The 161st Battalion CEF was slated to be part of the 5th Division but the Division was disbanded in England and dispersed as replacements for the other 4 Divisions in the field.
In this photo taken in England in 1917 you can see the 5th Division patch for the 161st Battalion.
