As always, my most prized collectible is everything I have gotten from my Grandfather. He was a simple engineer during the war but that will never matter to me. I promised him before he died that I would always keep his memory alive. It is sort of a collecting/family mission that will never waiver.

As soon as I get his medals court mounted and a shadow box set up, I will post some pics. I was hoping to get things done before remembrance day but it's not looking good for time so far. Such is life.

My holy grail was a 1st Can Para uniform, I managed to get that. Then it was a WWI uniform grouping and I managed to find that.
Now I dont really have a holy grail, I would love to get a 1st Spec Forces uniform but dont think that is going to happen.

My Holy Grail was a South Saskatchewan Regiment BD...which a member on here gratiously helped me acquire.

with the SSR BD in the ranks I have to say my new Grail quest is for a patched 46th Battalion CEF tunic...I will reward anyone handsomly if they can help me!

Sooo many other 'wants' but that would be the Grail now.
    Cheers!

The quest for the 'Holy Grail' is never ending. Particularly if your collecting interests change over the years. I have had numerous 'Holy Grails' and it's a very special feeling when you fulfill the quest. My first 'Holy Grail' was to find and obtain a 100% original, fully documented Confederate soldier's uniform with a wartime photograph showing him wearing the actual uniform. I was sixteen when I obtained my first 'Holy Grail' and I remember it as if it were yesterday.

My Holy Grail came in yesterday (so an extra special Thanksgiving for me!!).

It is a WW1 raw edged brodie complete with cap badge to the PPCLI. These were only worn by the officers in the Bn. Along with this, I obtained the medals, badges, paperwork, etc etc of of a Pte who was Hamilton Gaults postwar valet and wartime batmen. So yes, it would seem that this helmet belonged to none other than Hamilton Gault, founder of the PPCLI, himself.

I'll be writing an article with supporting evidence at a later date!

    Cheers,

    Geoff

Congratulations Geoff, this PPCLI brodie would make for a very special Thanksgiving! This should now complete your PPCLI helmet collection (?).

    Hi Adam,

As far as I know, this is the only Patricia helmet that I was missing. But, you never can tell, there may be variants that I'm not familiar with.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow of the whole helmet "family", and will post.

Congratulations Cliff, that is the pinnacle of collecting. Something that is personal is very meaningful.
