no1 Machine Gun Reinforcement Unit information?

am on a paper trail and have gotten to no1 Machine Gun reinforment Unit, can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Here is the background, I picked up a helmet with SLI flashes on it and a regimental no. written on the inside.

I was able to locate the fellow a CSM W Maddison, in the Saskatchewan archives he was S.O.S struck off strength in 1942 and went to No. 1 Cnd M.G.R.U (not sure if cnd is supposed to be cdn)

just trying to see if I could find anymore about him, I got to find out his wifes name

I think you are into an archives request for more info. As a CSM there is a good chance he was too old / medically unfit to continue in the active unit.

thats what I am leaning towards, I did fwd a request earlier, will have to wait and see, what do you think,

perhaps he went to teach? any idea re the MGRU

All kinds of possibilities. Repatriated to Canada as an instructor, or to take courses, or demobilized. MGRU = Machine Gun Reinforcement Unit.

any idea if I could find out about that unit? I did a search on-line (preliminary), but nothing

It was just a holding unit for reinforcement and transient personnel. In the UK.
