I was wondering if this is normal I have a family member who served during world war 2 alderic leblanc but when I sent a letter to get info on him they said they the reserves unit or regiment had burnt his records and I am in the black watch and we have everyones records that have ever served there and they take good care of them.Even on ancestry.ca there is nothing on him not even a birth or death this seems very odd to me is this a common thing? Anything would be great

where did you send your request, was it to library and archives canada? perhaps he was born abroad maybe? hence no records online

Jonhno that is a good point. Tremlay07, I went through and I am still going through a process of getting further information about my Father and Grandparents on that side.
This happens whether trying for information about WW2 family or any family for that matter I am finding.
The older records will be archived somewhere in paperwork, even though and especially with a family member immigrating in past from elsewhere.
Your trail could take you back to where the family first arrived in Canada.
My dad for example was born in western Canada, so if I apply and pay a fee for archives search and copies, the Province where he was born should have the records available.
In Saskatchewan for instance, born in Sask. town contacting town archives. If the records aren't available there, then the records may have been moved to a larger centre? Saskatchewan Regina manual data bank? Not there...maybe there is another more massive containment of such files in the Country for the older files?
My guess is many times the person you may be asking information of, doesn't know, doesn't care to find out or it is out of their realm and era. Times have changed in the last Twenty years due to technology etc, but if the Government (big spy stuff) wants to find the background on someone, they seem to find the information we may not even know exists about our family tree. So maybe researching the trail of change and activity for moving record locations etc, and what it will take to have the proper application and monies paid to the current place of storage for the older files if possible, is a start. You may learn more and be able to inform the office employee's at place of request something they don't realize about the possibilities and where the record could possibly be? Just a (long....sorry) thought. Good luck. Hope I find something more for my family too.

I sent it to the archives in Ottawa and I know were he is born and died but even in a census with his parents around 1920s he isn't listed for some reason there is nothing after the war or before all I have to go on is a birth and death record from his church nothing else.Were he lived there was another alderic leblanc around the same age to , I cant even find out his address in huntingdon its odd well his brother I found a lot of info on
