Another Photo posting Tutorial

Baby step by baby step on how to upload photos.

Well I do hope this helps members who are experiencing difficulty uploading photos to the forum. I have based this on the steps I used to post this tutorial.

*NOTE* I created a folder on my desktop for this tutorial.

This works either using the “POST NEW TOPIC” “POST NEW REPLY’ or “QUICK REPLY” feature.

First step, click on what you want to do, ie; new topic, new reply, quick reply. You will see the dialog box below. I used NEW TOPIC for this.

Within the dialog box, locate the set of icons located at the top of the dialogue box, that relate to images and inserts. This group is 4th from the left, or 3rd from the right. See image below, the grouping is circled.

Click on the first icon from the left within this group. See image below, the icon is circled.

Clicking this Icon will bring up the photo upload box as seen in the photo below

Click on the “Choose File button” again circled in the image below.

This opens your computer upload box and you should see something like the next image.

From that box, you will have to navigate through your computer to locate the folder containing the image you want to upload.

Double click on the image you wish to use, I chose image 01. The open box from where you chose the photo will disappear and you should see something similar to the following image.

Note the circled area in the next image show the file name I wanted to upload to the froum.

Click on the “Host It” button as seen the following image

You should see something quite similar to the image bellow.

You will want to use the middle line of the three as circled in the following.

click on that line ONLY once, this highlights it in blue as can  been seen in the following image.

Once the link is blue, right click on it which opens your computer dialog box as seen in this image,

Select “COPY” as seen in this image

Your computer dialog box will disappear and you will see the same on your screen as you did above, the image line highlighted in blue. At this point, the link is on your computers clipboard.

Chose the area within the post dialog box where you wish to insert the photo and click on the spot to set the cursor

then right click, this will bring up your computer dialog box again

Select the Paste option

This will put the coded photo into this place in your post. NOTE at this point you will not see the image in your dialog box, but just the code as can been seen in the following image

To see the image as it will appear in your post, you will have to click on either post, or preview.  I use preview. Here is what I see when I click on Preview

Thanks buddy. this is what happens when I am waiting on hold all day to speak to somebody in the federal government. I wonder how well it actually works I would like to get some feedback to see how good it works.

This is great news. I am glad I was able to help. All it takes is to miss one simple step and the uploading fails. I know it was thick as a brick when it came to uploading photos and I thought I would never figure out.

Hi Cliff, I echo the sentiments. Great explanation of the Forum system.
However, it is still un-necessarily complicated to get an image using the Forum system. I have gone to third party host (eg something like Photobucket), then I have more control over my images. And it is simple. Upload my images to the host, click and copy the url, and paste into the message using the image icon. And, I have access to my images, in a location of my choice, for any use I may have. Using the Forum image hosting site seems to be taking that control away from me.

Hi Bill, thanks for the compliment. I do agree the forum hosting is a little odd, but certainly not difficult when figured out.

I have tried posting photos to forums using the method you use, and honesttly, I can not do it. I am one of those people that sometimes, just cannot grasp the simplest tasks. I am a member of many forums, as a lot of us are. One forum in particular, has a wonky system for uploading photos. I will not mention the name here of course, but suffice as to say, I have only managed to upload 1 or 2 photos to that site successfully.

Nothing bothers me more than a going to a forum to check something out of interest to me, only to find that annoying "photobucket icon" saying the photo or attachment is no longer available.

Can't agree more with you on that Cliff. Many times that is not due to photobucket, but due to the owner of the image blocking or removing the image.

great step by step, once you use it a few times it does become easy, I agree too once a photo has been uploaded it should stay else it makes reference pointless if the pic is removed, use of photobucket should not be allowed, if someone wants to remove a pic then they should think twice about posting it in the first place, no disrespect to them.
