    Navan, Ontario

Located on a main thoroughfare in front of the Navan Memorial Centre some 50 km east of downtown Ottawa.

Constructed on June 28, 1987, in memory of Navan Veterans by Navan Veterans and Friends.

The Navan Memorial Cenotaph Committee was headed by Herb Deavy, a local veteran, which was successful in raising the necessary funds from private donations. Veterans Affairs Minister, the Hon. George Hees, present at the dedication, commented that it was a great effort and didn't cost the taxpayers a cent. The story was printed in the Orleans Express, now The Star, on July 1, 1987. Herb has a great scrapbook and video which he will leave to an appropriate local institution for posterity.

To update Adams post above, The Navan Memorial has been redone and moved from the West side of the Navan Memorial Center, to a much more visable position to the East of the Memorial Center parking lot.

The only downfall to the new location is the house next door. No matter how you try to take a photo, the house is always visable.

The following photos were taken by me on Friday June 26 2012, at about 14:00 hrs.

Close up of the Memorial. Note the English language on one side, French on the other. I am not sure how common this is to see.
