    A BOER WAR PERIOD DATED 1900 RATIONS TIN...…

    Made in Birmingham by Newell and McCuichon

    I am not sure if strap has been replaced but it is very stiff and old...…

    A Humble Ration Tin..... Empty Mess Tin

    That is a nice piece and what you have is a Mounted Pattern Mess Tin in which the rations were eaten out of. This type of Mess Tin was in use from 1898 until about 1943.

    Thank You for that information am surprised though that it was used as late as 1943....

    That strap also holds the mess tins to the leather skeleton water bottle carrier.
