    Unusual Helmet Empty Unusual Helmet

Post by ypres Sun Jul 26, 2015 6:56 pm

I've had this helmet for 25+ years. I have never been able to ID it. The helmet has a white band around it base. This band is friction tape. The entire helmet is painted grey, even under the liner. The liner is leather and has a extra section at the back that holds the nape of the neck.  The liner is riveted to the helmet shell. The shell is marked GSW MKI  AP. I know that collectors believe the AP identifies this as a batch of helmets that were  issued to ARP personnel. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi ypres it's " Civilian, Steel Helmet "
Reused in the 50s by the Netherlands.
Leather headgear or in oilcloth, and of a nape of the leather neck pads .

    Gate,

Thanks for the reply. Can I ask what reference you used to determine this ? The Dutch Civil defence helmets I have seen are much different than this. The neck guard on those helmets is a curtain designed to protect the neck if exposed to fire during a rescue. Check out this site:

Hello ypres, I know well the helmet which you show me we can meet the helmet Dutch Mark II provided with a wide leather flap for the civil defence.
The Netherlands after war used the shell helmet of several countries.
    British, Canadian etc.
Look at photos and you will find your liner and the light blue color is also typical civilian helmet defense of the Netherlands

Here is my reference in French unfortunately.
