1939-1945 War Medal Service Number

Gentlemen,

My mother in law bought me two medals - one of them with what seems to be a Canadian service number. It's a 1939-1945 War Medal named to M23768, K. SNYDERS.
With prefix M, I can't find the corresponding number. Anyone have any ideas? Snyders does not seem to be a common name, and the ones that I found on the CWGC website were both South African, so maybe there is a link there.

As Canadian WW2 medals were unnamed this is likely an Australian version. Their medals were issued named. Alternately it could have been privately named.
