In Denis Whitaker's book on Dieppe, he talks about the Stens being issued on the boats, still in their crates and heavy packing grease. Would it have been Mk2 Stens, and would anyone know if they were LongBranch production?
I can only spot one photo of a portion of a Sten in one of the photos with all the Captured weapons on the Dieppe Beach. There is a T stock sticking up from a sten, which would indicate a Mk2, but of course the stocks were interchangeable throughout production.
Canada started producing the Sten Mk2 in Feb of 42, with (either 9,781 or 17,000) going to the UK, and 58,000 going to the Canadian Army. So it is conceivable that by the time of Dieppe, Canadian Stens would be available for the raid.
So does anyone have an answer to this question? Do any relics from the raid exist in museums or displays from Dieppe?
