    Ridiculous prices... Empty Ridiculous prices...

Saw this pattern 1908 helve carrier on eBay a while back which went for $300...

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRITISH-ARMY-1908-PATTERN-WEB-EQUIPMENT-HELVE-HOLDER-/131351591816?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=fZlHM47Qftc7emBmPBAoaFh%252BQnM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

If you look closely, it is clearly 'made up' from two common items, an original 1918 P08 support strap and a P37 waterbottle carrier!

    Ridiculous prices... Empty 1980 Web

Yup, this particular piece has been faked for decades. Another copy joins a collection as 'authentic'.

...and it looks like they put the buckle on backwards!

In the listing, the seller even states... "THE HELVE HOLDER DOES SHOW SIGNS OF SERVICE WEAR BUT PLEASE NOTE, I BELIEVE THIS ITEM TO BE A FAIR REPRODUCTION AND AM SELLING IT AS SUCH"

...And it still went for $300! I don't get, wouldn't it be cheaper to acquire a postwar P37 waterbottle carrier and support strap and make your own?

There is an old adage - "A fool and his money are soon parted".
