Strathcona's Horse mail calls Empty Strathcona's Horse mail calls

Post by recceboy Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:49 pm

Over the last month and a half, the Strathcona collection grew, from Boer War QSA/Scully issued shoulder titles, WW1 medals, cap/collar/shoulder badges, Korean War Medal (who was A SQN Commander for the Dieppe Raid), and post Korean war badges to flush out the growing collection....

I also posted this in the British Badge Forum...…

    Gentlemen.....

I am in the middle of a project where I am re-typing out the Regimental Routine Daily Orders for the Boer War period for Strathcona Horse......

Here for you badge collectors is one order that may be of interest to you.....

These badges from what I understand were made onboard the ship......

    S T R A T H C O N A’ S H O R S E

    Regimental Order

    -0-0-0-0-0

    s.s. Monterey, 5th April 1900
By Lt. Col. Steele, Commanding, Troops on Board

    R.O. 262 – 05-04-1900

The Q-master will issue at once the letters "S H" for the shoulder straps and the badges for the collars and service caps.

The letters "S H" will be placed on each shoulder strap, One (1) inch above the seam and three-eights ( 3/8 ) inch apart.

The badges will be placed on service caps three (3) inches from front seam and one (1) inch above the seam on the left side.

The badges on collar of Rifle Green Serge, one (1) inch from the edge of collar on ether side.

Ghost Dated QSA, with bars Belfast/Orange Free State/ Natal, medal to Regimental # 467 Pte Thomson, the QSA came with the 2 "SH" which were issued by Scully and issued on sailing. The ship made version look the same as the Scully versions, minus the hex style lugs on the rear, and were sewn on the shoulder strap.

    HELLO
I too am interested in Canadian military history. I have some discharge papers for a Sgt. Thomas A. Callin and other papers from the Boar war period. On one of the papers it is signed by Lt. Col. Steele in Ottawa, March 15,1901. Another is a Forces Organized in Canada for Service in South Africa,   Certificate of discharge. I believe his Reg. No. is 453. Signed in Halifax, July 22nd 1902, by Lt. Col. Evans Commanding 2 C.M.R. If interested I may be able to send you some copies.

Just a few photos for your viewing pleasure.....

The SH was made in South Africa...…

I am not sure about the other brass but it and the SH are hand made.....
