Mk3 Turtle Shell Empty Mk3 Turtle Shell

    Post by zak9990 Sat Jan 12, 2019 12:37 pm

Can someone please tell me what unit the flash is on this helmet, I can't find It in any of my books.
8th division is what I think, but in my book It shows red and gray, this one is red and white.
    ThanksMk3 Turtle Shell S-l16010

Which books did you consult? Also toss out any book you own that describes the helmet in question as a Mk3 Turtle Shell.

I would say 8th division, but wrong side up.

From what I gather the 8th division orientation didn't follow the same 'seniority' colour over colour as the 6th and 7th, and the green was actually a new colour (originally pale green) and not just running out of colours with the 5th Div. maroon and going back one. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

As for Ed, I have no idea if is remains banned, but if he got his privileges back and changed his avatar to the 'banned' one, that to me would indicate a delightful, if not a little provocative, sense of humour.

It is an AoS sign, not a div sign, for the RCASC. See here https://milart.blog/2018/12/19/canadian-helmet-flashes-of-the-second-world-war-recognition-guide/.
Scroll down and it is the third flash from the bottom.

Mk3 Turtle Shell Empty MKIII Turtle shell?

I have the book - the Canadian Soldier by Jean Bouchery. So what am I missing ? (probably everything)
It's got the high chinstrap rivet and this is the stamp in this helmet, BMB MKIII 1944
Kinda looks like a III stamp or is there some chicanery going on here....
I have both the  MKIII and a MKIV helmets , I was mainly interested in the flash but Bill has cleared that one up
for me. I haven't been collecting Canadian helmets for very long but It seems ones with insignia's are rare.

Helmet is nothing wrong with, it is a nice Mk3 helmet only thing that concernes me a bit is that the decal looks a kind of fresh to me, or maybe it is just the lighting.
Ed is very strict in how to call things (turtle shell is not the official name), you can do your benefit with that, or just ignore it.

Yes and Mr. Story would be correct. My book in fact just says helmet MKIII it doesn't mention "Turtle".
I was just using the slang that many collectors use.
