Helmets ww2 in Canada Empty Helmets ww2 in Canada

    Hello,

I am curious to share this question with you and have your feedback.

Did almost all the canadian mkii that we found today in Canada never go overseas? Are they  military surplus or mainly used by training troops in Canada or used well after ww2 by forces? Is it possible that a soldier came back from  Europe at the end of the war with his helmet and keep it (no return to the regiment storage)?

    What about Mkiii?

    Thank you

I think all your ideas are probably correct. In my experience, many of the surplus helmets were handed in by returning vets and many of these have service numbers and names written in them. Many were unissued and used post war. I'm sure many vets placed them in the bottom of their kit bags and took them home. All your ideas seem reasonable to me.

    All the best,

    Ypres

Mk II helmets were still in use in some reserve units in the 70's and maybe even the early 80's.
